    Device:
    iPhone 4 (Black)
so i hated seeing a yellow thing in the corner of my ipod touch and figured out how to change the sunburts color/ make it transparant, heres how

SSH into your ipot and go to:
    /usr/local/bin/dock
under this you should find sunny.png and blacky.png
copy them to your computer and then rename the ones
on ur ipot to .png.old as a backup
*if u need them later rename back to .png*
then with the copied pngs open them in a photo editor preferably photoshop
edit away and save them back to your ipot

Ok I think I may have found a way..

If you look in /usr/local/bin/dock you will see the png file for the sunburst (called sunny.png).

You can download that image to your computer and then use a photo editor to color it, then replace it in the folder. If you want to make it invisible just use the photo editor to erase the sunburst and make sure to save as a trasparent png again. Replace the blank image in the directory.

Deleting the sunny.png file doesn't work. This will cause the dock to have no trigger to access it, making it a blank image should keep the trigger there.

After you have replaced the images you will need to do a full shutdown restart.

    Hope this helps

What program do i use to save it as a transparent png... Looked in MS Paint on Windows XP and there's only a choice to save as a PNG, but I don't see a "transparent" setting.

Paint doesn't have the power of transparency. You need something more substantial such as Photoshop or Corel Draw.

spoonforknife is right. GIMP is a free alternative to photoshop, it should work.

I'll make a transparent version now in photoshop, check back here in 10min...

Ok, I have made a transparent image and tested it, works great!

I have also uploaded a red sunburst to demonstrate how the color can be changed.

See the attached files for them both.

    Instructions:

    - Download the attachment (sunny is transparent, sunny-red is red colored)
    - SSH into your iPod, go to /usr/local/lib/dock and rename the sunny.png to sunny-old.png (this will back it up)
    - Copy the sunny.png file you downloaded into that directory (if you want to use the red one, make sure you rename it to sunny.png)
-May/may not need to change permissions to 755 for file copied over...
-Fully shutdown and restart your iPod
-Your sunburst should now be invisible (or colored)!

    Hope that helps

    Here you go!

Follow the instructions as above, make sure you rename this to sunny.png when you transfer.
