AFAIK the MAC is hard built into the hardware of the chip. Not like an IP address that you can change

MAC address is a hardware address, so this cannot be changed.

AFAIK = As far as I know

You can most definitely spoof mac addresses. I don't know of an app for iPhone/Touch yet though.

    You said it.... SPOOF

"MAC address is called by the network adapter driver to obtain a user specified MAC address in the registry. After the driver confirms that there's a valid MAC address specified in the registry key, the driver then programs the MAC address to its hardware registers to override the burn-in MAC address"

So you can't actually change the hardware address. It's done at driver level.

So in essence it's possible to sudo-change it.

Why are you guys wanting to change it?!

Obviously, they want to obscure their identity. With a device like this, the MAC address clearly translates back to the user - as soon as you register your Apple or if you bought from Apple, a quick call be Law Enforcement to apple could find out that you own the iPod with the associated MAC address. Its a stretch that one could get in trouble, since you could always claim that it was lost or stolen.

With a WEP-cracking program around the corner (I'm assuming), these guys I can bet want to be able crack wi-fi spots to gain internet connectivity.

On this note I wanna bring up a problem I had with my school network and the fact that they claim it doesnt alow non laptop devices. With the recent jailbreak and the many network tools in installer app is there anything i can use to fool the network. Ill list the details of my situation.
I can get onto the router, it gives me an ip and all
Through some fooling around i got safari to go to the authentication page my school uses.
It alows me to log in but then wont let me go to any other sites.
The excuse the school gave me was that they dont alow the non laptop devices on the wireless.
    Any ideas?
