I believe if he really wants to give the elephant a fair chance, take his gun away and see who wins then.

And who are you to decide that?

Luckily, you aren't in a place of any power.

He shot the elephant. Animals are killed literally everyday, whether for food, natural means, or other ways. Do the people who kill cattle to provide food for our growing population need to be shot?

Things die. Survival of the fittest. It just so happens that humans are on top right now, because of our intelligence. Go figure the chances of that happening, but it did.

We're only fittest until nothing's left. Luckily we'll kill ourselves off, eh?

Maybe. I suppose that's definitely one way to look at it, though I would hate for that to happen before we invent the Enterprise... ;)

Whoa, this tread is getting depressing. But I suppose its nice to have a debate every now and again about a topic such as this.

What do I think? A lot worser happens, I believe it was this very forum that a thread was posted about animals getting slaughtered and killed for food. It was a while ago.

Animals are killed all the time and I understand the point about him doing it for his own satisfaction, but it happens. But If it was a human that he shot, why would it be any worse? Is a human really more valuable then a animal even-though we are animals ourself? Who can say.

Instead of killing the elephant, slaughter the cattle in Africa that are causing mass desertification. Food for the people, saves the elephants, and slows expansion of deserts. Problem solved.
