I'm not having this problem any more but I'm afraid it may happen again. It first occured directly after the first time unplugging it from my xtatic(brandname) car charger. The problem made it so I could only turn on my iPod from sleep mode when it was plugged. So when it was unplugged I had to make sure I kept pressing the screen so it didnt go into sleep mode. I tried turning it off and back on and I also tryed pressing the home button. I've used the xstatic car charger since and have not had the problem.

My second problem is when using safari on rare occasion the screen (except for top and bottom bar) will turn black and I will get booted to home screen. When I reopen the safari window I am logged out of facebook or whatever I'm in.

Along with a solution to these problems I am wondering if I should just return my iPod to futureshop and get a new fresh one seeing as I've had this one for less than 30 days. What is your advice?

I dont think so.. I don't understand your problem.. but whatever it is..
returning it is not the solutions..
download a firmaware and try restoring it.. then..
go in settings and set auto lock to never... it should helps you..
then for safari.. humm the restore should do it?

Safari will occasionally crash when you are listening to music and going to a page on safari thats memory consuming. It might be a good idea to return your ipod because turning off while in sleep mode definitely is not common.
