Are you using the IP adress from the iPod or your computer? You need to be using the one the on the iPod to connect properly.

Make sure you install AND turn on SSH. To turn it on, use SBSettings, and make sure its toggled on. That may be the problem.

are you connected to your LAN network, same wifi as your computers connected to? idk if you logging in as root or not, root btw is super user dont use it if you dont know what your doing as linux says. but heres how i login to it...
    1. open terminal if you are using OS X, windows idk
    2. type "ssh root@(your ip address)
    3. it will ask for pword it is "alpine"
    4. you should be in idk what else to tell you

oh ya install "openSSH" it helps

Well I use WinSCP and you should do this
    1. Go to the Settings on your iPod
    2. go to Wifi and when the iPod connects
    3. Push the little Blue Button with a arrow
    4. it should tell you a IP Address
    5. enter that address in to the WinSCP
    6. Enter "root" and "alpine" for password
