Ok so i'm trying to restore my Ipod 2G 3.1.2. In itunes after it tries to verify the firmware it says: The iPod "iPod touch" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build. I'm pretty sure the firmware is for my ipod becus its name is "iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore" (never renamed) and was downloaded from apple update. How do i fix this?

I'm having the same problem. I have a IPT2G 32Gb with firmware 3.1.1 and when I try to restore to 3.1.2 it gave me the same message. I was in DFU and using the proper firmware. I'm also using iTunes 9.0.2

Me too. I have an Ipot 2G on firmware 3.1.3 that has never been jailbroken. I tried restoring it to 3.1.2 firmware(supposedly the original file from *******z) and I get the same "iPod touch" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.

    Any comments would be helpful

I just downgraded iTunes to 8.2 but still results in the same prob.

However It would let me restore to 2.1.1, but that's still no help

Having same problems, lolz so far Apple has done quite a job messing up our jailbreaks. =P

I very strongly suspect that this had to do with apple discontinuing signing 3.1.2 firmware.

Apple stopped signing 3.1.2 so you can only restore to 3.1.3 at the moment..
