I'm using a 1st generation iPod touch. I tried to install the 3.0 firmware update from 2.2.1 (legally, even), and my iPod got stuck for hours on the Apple logo screen with the progress bar completely filled. iTunes hung on "updating iPod software...' for the entire time, while taking up my entire CPU. Eventually I tried restarting the computer, the iPod, and restoring to factory defaults. Exact same thing happens when restoring - the iPod gets stuck at the same place (the very end of the restore), and iTunes hangs.

I've been trying to get into DFU mode and it won't seem to work - it always just goes to the iTunes logo/USB connect prompt. Any ideas? Please help!
