For some reason I cannot install the 3.0 software. I really want bluetooth for headsets and landscape texting. I have itunes 8.2.1 and a 2g touch. I have tried deleting and re-downloading the file several times. The ipod has never been jailbroken. After itunes downloads the software, it fails with a 1602 error every time. Then it gets stuck in restore mode and won't change off the "connect to itunes" screen. I have managed to fix that by shift-restoring to 2.2.1 that I found somewhere. Also I have tried running the irecovery to see if that would somehow affect the 3.0 install (instead of just getting the ipod to a bootable state) to no avail. Any ideas? I thought paying for the 3.0 update was stupid enough, and the thing makes my ipod take a crap. Is there anything I can do to get 3.0 installed on there? Will Apple be able to detect the use of the iRecovery tool and deny my warranty?
