Basically, i took my ipod out of my computer without looking at the computer itself this morning. I think it may have been trying to update.

Now, i cannot get past the connect to itunes screen. My ipod doesn't show up in itunes either. :S

I haven't jailbroken it, and it's all paid for.

Try a reboot, holding the home and sleep button down for a few seconds

Done that - no luck unfortunately.

Would it be worth setting itunes up on another PC?

you might have to do a reset from the ipod itself. Setiings > General > reset

how is he gonna do that if he cant get in to the settings?

    1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.
    2. Hold down the “Home” button.
    3. Keep “home” pressed and also hold the “sleep/wake/power” button.
    4. Keep both pressed until the apple logo appears
    5. As soon as the apple logo appears release the “sleep/wake/power” button.
    6. Keep the “Home” button pressed until the iTunes logo and a picture of the USB lead is shown.
    7. Now release the “Home button and follow the instructions within iTunes.

I hate guests... Lousy bumpers is what they is. I mean this thread is 2 years old. Anyway you have to put it into DFU mode (google it) and restore. I had the same problem and turns out my iPod wifi had broke and I had to bring it to the apple store (Doubt the 2 problems were related though.)
100th post I am now a multi touch fan yay!

    Ipod connected to itunes

This is what worked for me.

I connected the IPOD to another computer with ITUNES.

Other computer recognized the IPOD in recovery mode and gave an option to restore the factory settings.

    2. I let it restore the factory settings. That brought the IPOD to the state of new ipod.

    3. Then I connected it to the computer I used to sync this IPOD with. This brought all the content to the IPOD.
