Are you trying to help? Cause, it doesn't seem like it.

Anyhoo, go download iREB, it bypasses 16xx errors so you can downgrade or restore with a custom firmware if you like, or just a normal one.

    go here http://ih8sn0w.com/index.htm

I really was trying to help, but I am kind of sleepy as it is 12 am where I live.

I think you thought I wasn't trying to help for that little face I do in almost every single one of my post =P

DFU mode is hardware - you'll always be able to get into it unless something is physically busted inside your iPod. Open up iTunes. Connect your iPod to your PC. It doesn't matter if it's on or off. After it's plugged in, press the Power button for ~3secs. While continuining to hold the power button, press the Home button and hold both down for ~10secs. After that 10secs, release the Power button while continuining to hold the Home button. After ~7-10 secs, iTunes should pop up a message saying that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode. Restore it fresh to 3.1.1. Then update to 3.1.2.
