    All,

I have an iPod touch (first gen) and iTunes, both of which are up to date.

I wanted to test out a few free apps, so I downloaded them from the iTunes store. They're visible/available/whatever else in iTunes, but when I sync my iPod up to my computer the apps do not transfer to the iPod itself.

A friend suggested that I download the app directly onto my iPod via the AppStore and WiFi, but I don't have a button for the AppStore at all.

The buttons on the home screen are the default: Safari, Calendar, Contacts, Youtube, Clock, Calculator, Settings.
Then on the bottom bar: Music, Videos, Photos, iTunes

I've tried a restore already and I've tried to reset the home view via settings. Everything is up to date, so I'm not sure what to do.

    Thanks.

There is no "App" tab when I click my iPod.

You need to update your firmware to get the apps and appstore

    To which version?

Should I just buy the 3.0X update from the store or is there a free one I could go for? I was under the assumption that I was all updated.

you're not updated. get the latest (3.1.2). it will be worth it, unless you might wanna wait for 4.0.
