i just got my ipodtouch 16gb today and i downgraded to 1.1.1 with no problems and jailbroke it and everything was fine. it somehow went into recovery mode and when i went to recover it it said that i HAD to recover and update to the newest version so when i got it restored and tried to downgrade from 1.1.4 to 1.1.1 it keeps giving me an error message and sending me back into recovery mode.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you holding down the "shift" key when pressing the "restore" button in iTunes?

Try placing your iPod in DFU mode. There are several threads on this. Search for DFU mode and you will find it.

NOOO... dont, your actually downgraded. I did this with my iphone yesterday. Your actually on the firmware you downgraded to, just use ziphone or ibricker or w/e to boot from recovery and youll be downgraded. It gave me the error too, but i booted into normal mode, and i was at the activate screen, but i saw i still had the service, so i had a suspecion i was on 1.1.3

Just use the method that you downgrade 1.1.3 to 1.1.1

    Don't know?

    IT's SHOW TIME....

1)Open Itunes with your IPOD plugged in

2)press the home button 1st, then hold the power button

    3) When the screen turns black , release the power button ( but keep holding the home button)

    4) Wait till itunes recongnizes your ipod touch

    5) It says your in recovery mode( DO NOT DO ANYTHING)

    6) download 1.1.1 firmware

    7)Go back to itunes

    8) Hold your shift key and left click the "restore" button

    9) Choose the 1.1.1 firmware

10 ) wala... and it starts extracting...blah blah blah

    11) your back to 1.1.1

    That doesn't work for 1.1.4.

You've to do it either my way, or the other ways they pointed out.
