This is most annoying, i hope somebody can help!

So....my 3G on Orange works fine for everything on 3g, i can browse appstore, browse itunes, use apps that need 3G, download emails...yet when i try to download an app the slightly greyed out icon appears for the new app and says "waiting" underneath it. I then wait for upwards of 10 minutes and get an error message "Cannot connect to itunes"

I have downloaded Apps over 3G before and had no problems. Its on 3.1.2 and is jailbroken with blackrain....as it always has been and ive never had this issue before.

Try a simple reboot, it worked for me when I had this problem

Whats the size of the app? I heard that some company put limit's on how big you can download

Yeah, depending on your carrier will depend what applications you can download through 3G.

Apple has a default cap of 20MB, anything over that has to be on the PC or while connected through WiFi.

What's the size of the application? It should say in the description.

They could have slowly been cutting off your services. I also know sometimes when a carrier 'disconnects' you, some services will remain functional for some reason... My friend got cut-off here with Rogers, and he could still text and sometimes call, it was strange. Yet, no data and the company called to inform him he was being 'disconnected'. His mom forgot to pay the family bill before going on vacation!
