I've done a bit of searching and haven't found an answer. Basically can I use the line in in to record my guitar?

Really? I messed around with it and it DID record from my stereo through an aux cable that was half plugged in and half out of my ipod. But in very poor quality on voice memos

Try using a 3.5mm to 4.5mm (think thats the right measure meant for guitar amps) audio jack to connect the iPod to the headphone port of your guitar amp.

I've recorded from my brother's guitar. He has a mini portable amp that runs on a 9 volt. I also had a mic with line in on it.
