I've got a jailbroken iphone 3g and my friends going to get the touch. Will it be possible for me to offer him my internet access when he is away from wifi? this would sure be cool!

    thanks

... and how do you tether the iPhone to the iPod Touch when the 1G has no BT built in at all and the 2G has no working BT stack?

the way to tether a laptop using an iphone is to create a ad hoc wireless access point on the computer and connect the iphone on it and then using some proxy config you can browse internet on the laptop using the phone network.

so, unless an ipod touch can create a wireless access point I don't think you can tether an ipod touch with an iphone

someone needs to make an app cuz its very possible..it can be done on windows mobile phones..simply using the data plan and converting it to a wifi hotspot

the only problem is that AT&T does not officially allow tethering with the iphone. so even if you can do it with a laptop I would not recommend to use it too much. Because they might find out, if you use too much data.

I usually do it when I travel and I don't want to pay the hotel for an internet connexion.

ok, I just got an idea. if you can do it with a laptop it might work.

create an adhoc access point on the laptop.
connect your iphone on this network and run the proxy in the terminal app. now on your laptop you just need to tell your browser to use the proxy and there you go.

so it might work if you connect your ipod touch on the same network and I think there are some proxy settings you can setup on the ipod touch in the wifi settings. I might try this tomorrow if I have time.

yes you can, install pdanet from cydia.
This will turn your iphone into a wifi router, your friend's touch can then connect to your iphone via regular wifi. Just make sure you have the unlimited internet (3g/gprs) plan.
