Don't feel bad though - the numeric battery isn't really that accurate to begin with. It displays depending on what you're running, so if you have SSH, wi-fi, music, as well as Safari open, it might only display that you have 60% battery at a near full charge. Once you turn those off, it will shoot back up.
I used it for a while, but it really wasn't worth it. I went back to standard battery.
It is accurate, the same happens with the regular battery, i'm unjailbroken right now an if i'm playing a game an it notifies me 20% i quit the game and a while after it shows up green again.
You can if you first jailbreak, install a program that enables numeric battery, back up your device, restore to factory settings, and then restore from back up. But I guess that doesn't solve your no jailbreaking problem.
after i restored to default firmware after jailbreak, i still had numeric battery
i thought the 3.0 beta had a numeric battery if you tapped on it
Surpirse, Surprise. From my understanding, you can have the numeric battery without the jailbreak.
