Like gmail or skype? does apple allow it to be used for other stuff that facetime?
If Skype updates their app to use the front facing camera, and if they allow video chat, then yes.

yes they allow it. They said so in their original unveiling of iphone 4 that they want facetime to be a standard, and they're allowing developers to use it, integrate it in their apps.

yeah I'm really surprised that Skype hasnt been on the ball with their app upgrades. youd think theyre app would skyrocket knowing you could video chat with computer users. oh well, we'll just have to wait
It's an API that was a part of the 4.0 SDK release - alongside video streaming (up and download)so that camera could be used for virtually anything and you could think of.
somebody better use it for a usable client or Ill die
