A friend of mine bought a ps3 and believes it was stolen from a store because he got it for dirt cheap.. My question is will/can Sony track/ban the ps3 if he goes online?

If it has contact with the outside world (Example: INTERNET) It can be tracked.

By finding the account that is logged in to that PS3. Or search by IP/Mac address.

But I mean how does the store know what PS3 was stolen?
Do they keep an inventory of each serial number of every PS3 and their location?
