Can someone please explain why iPhones are so ridiculously priced in Australia compared to America?

    In Australia:

    3G 8gb iPhone - $719 AU ( $618.40 US )
    3GS 16gb iPhone - $879 AU ( $756.03 US )
    3GS 32gb iPhone - $1040 AU ( $894.50 US )

I understand the it's going to cost a little more than iPhone is USA but really? The prices for the iPhone on US Apple are much much cheaper than AUS Apple...can anyone shed some light on the situation?
    Thanks guys

Probably the same reason why the prices for computer parts are so much more expensive in Aus too. For example, my new Mobo in Aus would of been over 410AUD, to buy one form America, including first class shipping cost me 270AUD.

Im on a contract with Vodafone for my 3GS, 69 per month, 360 credit and 1gb downloads.
