I want to use that as a firefox logo on my computer for obvious reason but getting the cat out of the background is hard for me. Can anyone do it?

Saw you've been waiting 5 hours for this... so I just did a quick clearcut of the cat... hope that's all you wanted...

I've given you a gif file (yuck)... but I also rar'd a tiff file for you with the path and mask layers still intact if you need them...

Thanks that's EXACTLY what I needed. When you say you did a clearcut, did you do it manually or is there a tool that can pretty much automatically do it? Thanks again!

    almost automated:
select using magnetic selector (or however it is called in english) in photoshop and cut/paste it. or do it manually...it only takes 10-15minutes nothing too bad^^

Um no, I used the pen tool in Photoshop and clearcut it myself manually.. only took a minute... or 2 at the most.

The pen tool is a wonderful (and probably the most important), tool to learn (for Photoshop/Illustrator)... and easier than it appears. Once you master it... you can cut pretty much any image out of the background.... Just look up "pen tool photoshop" in google and use one of the many good tutorials available out there on the interwebz

And yes, you can use the magnetic selector... or even the extract filter... but you get more precise and better clearcuts if you can master the pen tool yourself.

for me I use both in combination^^
first a rude cut using magnetic selector then manually editing using the pen tool - works better and faster on complicated clearcuts^^ this one obviously was easy to handle

OK, thanks again. I'll see if I can figure it out. This is what it looks like on the Dock:
