Hello everyone, I will soon become a iPod Touch owner, along with my older brother after playing with my cousin's.

I've decided to buy the 16 Gb ver. 1. because it is cheaper.

    1. What firmware will this likely be?
    2. Can I somehow get the new apps for free after jailbreaking it?
    3. It only reads MP4 videos right? so I will have to convert everything? I got about 100 music videos to convert, and that'll take an awfully long time.
    4. any way to have the web apps downloaded on the iPod touch?
    5. To change the icons, what files are the icons supposed to be? PNG?

(off to look at the videos on ipodtouchmaster)

    thanks

If i want the new apps, what do I do? downgrade then upgrade + iphone app (i saw that vid. on ipodtouch master)

How can I download the webapps? Is customizing the icons easy?

yah, first you downgrade the firmware back to 1.1.1, then go upgrading it again. this site is good http://rupertgee.wordpress.com/2008/02/08/jailbreak-113-official-gui/

with the webapps, you have to either: a) purchase the $20 jan upgrade (assuming you got the iPod before the new firmware was released or b) follow the site. that should do the trick.

what do you mean by customizing? the icons, or the names?

FYI, if you buy a brand new iPod touch it will have the upgrade pre-installed. Which means that you will have to downgrade and move your way back up to 1.1.3 in order to jailbreak, and the upgrade should come back. If not, then you would be morally justified in enabling them, and IMO the is the best method for doing that is to get the apps from the Installer source "applerepo.com".

Yes, you can change the icons and names of applications. For the icons, you could just replace the application image from its folder, but you can also use a program called Summerboard to install various themes, which change many of your icons to fit the theme. For the names of apps, it's simply a matter of editing a text file.

    Thank you.

I have read that some apps don't work with 1.1.3, so should I downgrade back to 1.1.1 after installing the new apps? Will that make me loose the apps again?

And what if the png files arn't 60 by 60? They are like 96 by 96 , I collect icons on a regular basis to use in my computer dock.
