    Connect your iPod to iTunes. Push the Upgrade/Update button. Pay the $. Use blackra1n to jailbreak.

    well arent we stealing apps in the first place.. why would a later update be so important?

    Funny thing, because on this forum a lot of people don't steal applications. Don't talk about pirating and illegal matters on here.

    And for your question, every major OS upgrade cost money.
