I have tried at least 5 tutorials now. The main thing they all say is the hold the home and power button for 10 seconds (till it's completely off), quickly release the power button but continue holding the home button. I continue holding the home button through the time it shows the silver apple logo, and guess what?
    It shows that dang screen.
You know what I'm talking about. The one with the USB cord on the bottom pointing to the iTunes logo. My iTunes says it's in recovery mode when it does this, but another tutorial I follow said that this screen is most definitely not DFU mode. I know how to get it out of this screen and back to my iPod Touch home screen, but so far nothing I do will get it into DFU mode. Please help!

No duh. There's not a time I've tried when I didn't do that. I always release the power button IMMEDIATELY after it switches off, before the apple logo shows.

lug in your iPod to your computer
Step 2: Hold down home button for 5 seconds
Step 3: Don't let go of home button, and press power button for 10 seconds
Step 4: Release power button and just hold home for 30 seconds.

Wow. After I did this, I thought my iPod was off, but once I figured out I couldn't turn it on, I was like, woohoo!

    THANKS MAN

To get into DFU mode, you have to do the keystrokes WHILE IT'S ON!
Not when it's off, before it boots up.
