when i downoad the file from quickpwn.com it is a zipped folder called "iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore" but it has no .xxx at the end like .zip. Poeple have said to make this a different name to make it work but is dosent. I need the original firmware and the zip folder is not it!

Okay, I don't know how smart you are with technology...

but to throw it out there:

Is it a file that has an extension unknown to your computer (possibly .rar)???

Make sure it's enabled to show extentions in folder settings...

Umm yeah I can't think of any other reason...

you need to save the file with an extention of IPSW, if you are using safari you will need to turn off the option that runs a program after downloading (or something like that)

You have to rename the extension to .ipsw. That's it. If it doesnt work, try downloading the firmware from another trusted site or use another browser. If all else fails, use another computer to download the file, then save it to a USB and put it on your computer.

I hate it when WinZip changes the file extensions / pics. So annoying, I was trying to install Windows 7, so I ended up extracting the .Iso and putting the files on DVD. It didn't boot so I checked the file extension of the ".Zip" and it ended up being an .Iso. 7 Zip ftw!
