    Hello,

I'm very new to this whole iPod Touch/Jailbreaking game; my previous iPod was a shuffle! What I want to know is, can I jailbreak my iPod which runs firmware 2.2.1 (5H11a)? According to the redsn0w instructions, I need to upgrade to firmware 3.0 first, which will cost me about $12 on iTunes.

Clearly I want access to Cydia and its applications, and redsn0w seems the way to go.

There also seems to be quite a few different instructions out there for jailbreaking; all of which are subtly different, in terms of the tools they use, the setup required, and the steps involved. Which is the most reliable?

    Thanks,
    -A.

    1. upgrade to 3.0 via itunes (BUY IT DAMM IT lol)
    2. download redsn0w via the official dev team blog: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ (just click the link where it says "the redsn0w ******* seeds are all here" it will take you to [PIRACY.tb] where you have to choose redsn0w 0.8 for your operative sistem, be it mac, windows, linux...)
    3. launch redsn0w
    4. DONE!

    yes that's it
downloading is the hardest part lol
redsn0w will take you step by step through what you need to do.
btw, redsn0w asks for the firmware file you installed into your ipod, you have to look it up on your computer, and select it in redsn0w

any questions feel free to pm me

Thanks for that - there are such a multitude of contradictory instructions out there; some say go with 2.2.1 and quickpwn or various GUI tools such as QuickFreedom; others recommend upgrading first and using redsn0w (as you have done)... all very confusing to a newbie like me.

But yes, I'll buy and upgrade to firmware 3.0, and use the newest redsn0w. This seems like the simplest and most failsafe process (even if it means unchaining my wallet first!).

    Thanks again,
    -A.

    But seriously, go away.

    Quickfreedom sucks bigtime!
Who cares about GUI, and redsn0w is as simple as QF, plus it's better.

So no don't go Quickfreedom, but redsn0w
