I still have an old 1st generation iPod Touch as my only Touch (so I don't have another one to go to if something breaks), and I was wondering if it was possible/should I jail break it.

It's running Firmware 3.1.3 and I've never tried to jail break it before or do anything beyond what Apple allows.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard on it, and iTunes 9.0.3.

So basically for what ever reason I decided I'd like to be able to unlock the full potential of my device, but I have some questions before I potentially walk into a whole day of Terminal and Restoring hell.

    1) If everything goes to plan with BlackRain will any of my iPod's app data or anything get lost as a direct result of the jail breaking process?

    2) Is making everything go back to factory set up and undoing any JB related damage really as easy and fool proof as a Restore via iTunes?

    3) Would the jail break for my device/firmware be tethered?

    4) How are Non App Store Apps handled by iTunes? Do they get treated like normal apps and get synced both ways and backed up and such, or do they get excluded from such things?

    5) Are there any other questions I should have asked but didn't?

    Thanks for reading.

    1) Blackra1n works with 3.1.2 only! Use the pwnage tool which can be found here on the Dev Teams blog http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/202796266/all-aboard-the-update-train And no you can recover everything as long as you backup first with iTunes.
    2) Doing a restore is easy! It's just time consuming for iTunes lol. You dont have to do much other than a few clicks.
    3) Nope you will be UN-tethered

you can reboot all you want.
    4) If your referring to apps from cydia they only stay on your iPod so it'll never go to iTunes. which is perfectly fine.
    5) You are clear to go. Need help Jailbreaking or anything else PM me!

Is there a solution for windows yet? Because I installed 3.1.3 on my 1st gen touch, but I want to get back into making themes.

Ok, thanks, I'm doing a rebuild of my iTunes iPod back up as we speak.

(I don't trust incremental back ups over extended periods of time)
