I want to change something about a certain application. Is there a way I can view the app's source code or something?

There is a file in the app's folder with the same name as the app, but it has no extension so I dont know what to do with it.

I'd prefer to do it myself, and keep what I am really working on a secret.

    You need the
    main.m
    application.h
    application.m

sort of files to do that.

    No you can't do it.
Mac applications (including iPhone and iPod Touch) are normally wrote in Objective-C which is a compiled language (the output of compiler is assembler). You can't get source code (Objective-C) from the executable, you can only disassemble it (but assembler sources aren't very useful to the most humans...).

I think that the only thing you can do is to write to the software's author to see what he think of your idea... Moreover, to patch an application written by others you need the rights or application must be distributed under a free software licence (like GPL or BSD)...

    They "speak" assembler ?... :/
    It's difficult but not impossible...

To be honest, there are softwares which can *decompile* (not disassemble) an executable, but in my knowledge none of them produces acceptable results (except when the executable had been written with a very high level language like Java or .Net).
And I don't know a decompiler that can deal with ARM assembler and produce an result in Objective-C... It can exist, but I doubt...
