In most "professional" web pages, you see an icon in it.
    Icons looks like this:

Please Register or Log in to view images

Please Register or Log in to view images

And pages that DON'T have icons look like this:

Please Register or Log in to view images

Can anyone please tell me what this is called, also is this hard to apply???
    Any help would be appreciated.

It's called a favicon. You simply create or find a 16x16 image, name it favicon.ico and upload it to the root of your domain, via FTP.
If you have an image but do not have the resources to convert it to 16x16, there are a great handful of generators out there: http://www.google.com/search?&q=favicon generator

I'm no expert at designing websites, but I like to test around with HTML.

Can I use some 'code' or <blahblah>picture.jpg</blahblah> to apply it?
