Every time I try to restore using the custom 3.0 jailbroken firmware i downloaded. It hangs at preparing ipod for restore then eventually i get this error message: The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred(1604)

I do put it into DFU mode before i try to restore.

Please could somebody help me and give me an idea of what i am doing wrong.

    I would really appreciate it.

I might be able to help you if you can tell me where the folder /library/iTunes is located on a pc. I think I can solve the problem.

Okay, you have to have iTunes closed when you run PwnageTool. So uncheck the "Start iTunes when this iPod Connects" box. Close iTunes and then run the PwnageTool all the way through to the DFU mode part. PwnageTool will tell you to CLOSE PwnageTool and open iTunes. You're iPod should be found as in recovery mode. You have to Option+Click on the Restore button and then select the custom firmware that PwnageTool created. It will be on your desktop. It should work from there, it did for me.
