Please excuse me if this has been asked already. I just bought a 32gig Ipod Touch 3rd generation (using ver.3.1.2). I am seeing conflicting reports that it can or cannot be jailbroken. If it can, do I basically have to turn it into a 2nd generation model? And, will that make some of the 3rd gen features not work? Just curious before I even try anything.

    Thanks

You can be jailbroken with blackra1n on 3.1.2. Your jailbreak will be tethered though.

I'm sorry. What do you mean by "tethered"? Will it restrict my Ipod in some way? Will it operate the same as other jailbroken Ipods? Does it have to be re-jailbroken frequently?.

Thank you by the way for the quick reply

It means that whenever your iPod shuts down, or you need to reboot for something, then you will need to plug it into a computer with iTunes and then re-run blackra1n on your pc.

So when you say shut down, do you mean turn off? because then it would be pointless right? i have installed blackra1n and cydia, and can see the icons on my ipod, but are you saying when i turn it off, "poof" it will all be gone? i'm confused. also one more thing (thank you for your help by the way) now that i have blackra1n and cydia, and i have a bunch of apps downloaded, how do i actually get them in the ipod? I know, very primary question, but i honestly do not know.
    thanks

    1. the things dont go "poof" they stay on the ipod. reason why the ipod says to restore is because apple wants to get rid of the jailbreaky goodness. Just rerun blackran and you'll have everything back to normal.
    2. they should be on your ipod already if you install directly from your ipod

If you are talking about pirated apps then you need to read the rules.
