Is there any possible way (by downgrading to whatever it takes) to jailbreak an iPhone purchased in September (comes with 4.0.2)?

No, you'll have to wait for GreenPois0n.

jailbraking is over rated though apple is catching up to it with all the features that they keep adding to the firmware. i would only use it for minor cosmetic stuff like battery % or sbsetting so i can respring.

I'm pretty sure battery percentage is now a standard option in Settings.

No, update it to 4.1 and wait like everybody else.

So false. There is so much more you can do with a JB iPhone.

It's not just a matter of "free apps" (I don't mind buying what I can, I'm a dev myself I understand that software costs money).. there's a ton of stuff you can't do otherwise without the JB.

    I don't think so, sadly.

    DON'T LISTEN TO HIM

    DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.1

Stay where you are until a Pwnage tool is out that allows you to update and keep your baseband at 1.59 . The 4.1 firmware does VERY little by means of reasons to upgrade; game center still has very few compatible games.
