I visited the ATT store yesterday and was told that if I buy the new iPhone for $199 - that once the old phone was deactivated, it was no longer good as an iPod or for other applications and would'nt even sync up with iTunes. Does anyone know if that's really true? I wouldn't think it would be useless.

not really. You can just jailbreak/unlock it. On 1.1.4 of course.

What about the sync with iTunes part - will I be able to upgrade to 2.0 and sync up applications and songs? I don't want it as a phone anymore, I want it as an iPod or basically, a touch.

......the old iphone is fine, sure you cant buy them now but it isnt like they wont work....if your on contract it is renewable for as long as you own the phone (provided you pay on time and do not harass support) which in turn builds your credit to a free upgrade to 3g

    Need more help

My old iPhone has a new sim card now (since I got my 3g) but the phone only opens to the emergency dialing screen - and it I connect it to Itunes, it wants me to reactivate with ATT. How do I get past all that so that I can use it like an ipod?????????????
