I've searched the forums and I haven't found any recent information about this method.
Is it possible, if I already have an existing at&t contract, to upgrade to an Apple iPhone, then cancel the contract? I'm on a family plan currently and I don't know how this will turn out in the long run.

Also how much would it cost me to buy a iphone 3g 8gb or 16gb then cancel and unlock on my own?

    Thanks

Contract: A contract is an exchange of promises between two or more parties to do or refrain from doing an act which is enforceable in a court of law.

    Take your sh*t elsewhere.

If you cancel the contract they charge you $299 for the iphone so you might as well buy one for $500 on ebay. You still need service with someone and if you don't have a data plan why bother?

Cancelling contracts is a bad idea, it can affect everything from loan and credit card applications to other future investments and possibly jobs. If you don't have the money then buy one off eBay and Jb it.

Buy the phone with contract $200
Pay 30 day bill in order to be able to terminate: $60 and up
    Cancel the contract: $175
    Add on taxes: $???

Save yourself the trouble and buy one unlocked.
