I'm having the same issue. I have a xps m1330 vista premium 64-bit. Everytime I plug in my ipod touch, I get the blue screen of death and my system reboots.

WELL I SOLVED IT. SEE IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU.

Open the iTunes 8 exe with winRar or whatever.
    Open MobileDevice support.
    Click Remove.

Open iTunes 7.7 exe with WinRar or whatever
    Open MobileDevice Suport
    Install

    Should work then, no problem.

Many Many thanks- this happened to me during a software update on my iPod touch - BSOD appeared.
This solved the problem- Apple needs to solve this quick!

Yes, bwilking has the soultion. You need to unistall Apple Mobile Device Support from your programs list. Then extract a iTunes 7.7 installer package to seperate the different installers. Install just the Apple Mobile Device Support msi and your crashes will stop. There are still a few gliches with imaging devices but no more crashes when your iPod or iPhone is connected to your computer.

No need to extract anything anymore. Apple has updated the iTunes installer available on their website with the older version of apple mobile device.
Just uninstall mobile device support and install the new itunes8setup.exe available on apple.com

That's funny that it's so obviously named--usbaapl. USB is USB, and aapl is Apple's stock identifier. Clever xD

So after the BSOD earlier today, I checked the Vista app called "Problem Reports and Solutions" for a fix. It correctly pointed me to this site for a fix http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2280
