Now I've really done it. I was SSHing into my jailbroken 2.2.1 iPod Touch the other day, and I'm pretty sure I accidentally messed up some permissions. Now I can't launch any applications whatsoever, the iPod thinks its drive's full, and it believes that it contains no music. Would someone mind telling me the permissions on all the directories on / so I can compare them to mine and fix them? Better yet, if someone has a factory iPod, a full ls -nR would be very helpful.

EDIT: Alternatively, if someone knows of software for my computer that will let me back up apps (both App Store and jailbreak) without installing anything on my iPod, that would be great too.

its called aptback or something in cydia.
normal appstore apps you can just resync.
go for the restore. will probably save a lot of time.

try SBSettings (status bar) > more > extras & options > fix user dir permissions...
it helps when my apps start crashing all the time.
