Craigslist is a good place to find broken iPhones. Jailbreaking and unlocking are perfectly legal

Unlocking isn't illegal or the Dev Team wouldn't do it and this forum wouldn't talk about it.

Apple has tried to say jailbreaking is illegal but unlocking is not illegal.

I think that there is a confusion as to what is in breach of EULA and what is against the law.

I doubt jailbreaking or unlocking is breaking any law but is very likely in breach of EULA.

Jailbreaking allows you to install applications to allow illegal activity (pirating is illegal) however this does not make the act of jailbreaking itself illegal (I can own a hammer legally however smashing somebody in the skull with said hammer is illegal!!!)

Unlocking is only against At&t's (or your carriers) Contract and voids your warranty.
