    here's what happened

    windows user

i "may have" downloaded a custom firmware ipsw.

so i entered recovery mode, alt and shift selected the ipsw,

    i got error code 6

so i entered DFU mode and tired alt and shift selecting the ipsw again,

    then i got error 1602

now i can't get my computer or iTunes to recognise my iPod Touch,

it just says "found new hardware" everything i connect it

tried connecting to a different usb port - doesn't work
tried deleting the apple software device file - doesn't work
tried repairing iTunes - doesn't work

ANYONE got any kind of advice(besides buy a new iPod!)

thanks guys, this is a great forum

tried that, just says "found new hardware" nothing from iTunes

i can't get it to enter recovery mode or DFU mode, using ANY of the sleep/awake methods

I held the home and sleep after unplugging it from my PC and it went into standard restore mode.

same thing happened to me.. try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling (as recommended by Apple in their Knowledge Base Article for errors 1601 and 1602). It worked for me.

Hold the home and power button down until the iPod reboots to the Apple logo, then continue holding the home button to enter recovery mode.
    Restore to clean 2.0.

I had this happen to me many times tonight..
