I have got a completely bricked 8gb 3rd gen ipod touch on firmware 3.1.3 unjailbroken. It will not turn on at all, I've tried DFU mode, it isn't even recognised by the computer.

    Any help?!

DFU mode will work unless the hardware is broken.

Keep trying to put it into DFU mode, it can sometimes take multiple attempts to get it right.

If you can't get it into DFU mode, then the hardware was faulty.

It's not working, but the battery is getting hot while it is plugged in, so it must be charging right?!

    DFU should work. Keep trying.

try a hard reset, could be your USB cable, maybe its broken, try rebooting the computer and try diffrent USB ports, if its getting really hot id say two things... one hardware or two USB cable is fried.

It's not the usb cable since they both work on my 32gb ipod, must be broken or something, it's hardly ever used though :S

Try DFU restoring it on another computer. It'd worked for me when something similar happened to me.
