I just got a brand new iphone today, i was hoping for 2.28 but the 'modem firmware' says it is 2.30 so i am assuming i can now not unlock it.

my question is really just wanting to know your opinion, or what you would do. okay so i have this new iphone and i cant use it (i have an ipod touch and i am playing myself on mybrute but thats about it). should i...

    a) pay the $150 telstra wants from me to unlock it
    b) buy one of those turbo sim cards off ebay (which will take a week to get here)
    c) wait for the 3.0 firmware to come out and hope the magicians at the dev team have already come up with a way to jailbreak and unlock the iphone

i would be happy to hear any response or ideas. i suppose its not bad that i can't unlock it now because i need to buy it a case and a screen protector.

    thanks for incoming opinions

You may be able to downgrade your baseband (depending on your bootloader version) with an app from cydia. I forget the exact name of the app (fuzzy bootloader something or another), just search cydia for downgrade baseband. If your baseband is downgradeable, you can use yellowsn0w to unlock.

yeah mate i read something about that, but i severely doubt that i have an old bootloader considering this was brand new, it was just ordered in from the shop. but anyway, how would i check said boot loader?

    thanks

There was an app in cydia that lets you check if you have the old bootloader, and if you do, it goes ahead and downgrades your baseband so you can use yellowsn0w to unlock.

Just pay to have it unlocked legit. Its just a pain to worry "can I do this, can I do that, is this going to lock my phone if I upgrade" Waiting for everything.

If I could have mine unlocked legit in the US I would. It would just be nice not to worry about it.
