Are there any booters that don't need libusb? I would love to have one. I have given up on not using it for the jailbreak, but what about booting?

Sorry no. Its needed in order to be able to communicate with the DFU mode on the iPod.

that statement is not entirely true.

    1. libusb isn't the only method for connecting via usb. MobileDevice library/framework that itunes uses is available, however much harder to use (i believe)

    2. libusb is used for ALL usb communications in irecovery/redj0hnny, not just dfu mode.

    3. if libusb is statically linked against a binary when compiled, then libusb wont have to be installed.

    luxtouch

I use luxtouch (it dosent require irecovery or libusb but i'm on xp). People say it dosent work for jailbreaking but i used the redsnow tool. All i use it for is booting and it works perfect and it's all automatic.
