BigBoss suggests you should NOT install the 3.0 OS beta unless you are a dev, despite the appeal of its new functionality. A synopsis of his reasoning is below.

O.O. I wasn't planning on getting it anyway but this is informative. Thanks.

    Yes, I agree.

I've been using the beta for several days now, and I must say that it's very laggy and full of bugs, with the fear of it also expiring at anytime.

The beta isn't for the average user, so you're best off with a jailbroken 2.2.1 firmware on your device for now. The beta is only useful for devs, for now...

Sounds like common sense to me. "It's in beta and may be buggy"...yeah no kidding.

You'd be surprised... given the number of warnings and bans that mods have given out recently to members who insist on discussing where and how to get leaked firmware or how to circumvent the protection I'd say this common sense that you speak of just isn't common enough!

Heh, 3.0 beta is less buggy then 2.2.1 jailbroken, I have better battery life with it and it's just better. That is just me though.

I have an iPod Touch 2G, so I don't have to really worry about that.

I'm really not that interested in the beta, anyways. Most of the reasons (CPU hogging, applications not working) are also mine.

I don't want to try the beta (same as 2.0) because I like it to be more of a surprise when I first use it, instead of 3.0 coming out and it's not that big of a deal to me.

its not THAT buggy, but the new features arent all there since apps havent been developed and released to use them, so meh

also, for what is now an obvious reason, i have no youtube, which makes me sad
