I'm trying to figure out the best way to secure my wifi traffic when on a public, unsecure network. From the iPod side, the easiest would be connecting to a VPN, however setting up a VPN server seems like it could be a pain. I have access to a Gentoo box I could do this on, but knowing Gentoo, that could be a pain.

OpenVPN seems easy enough, but if I'm not mistaken, there's no iPod Touch client for it.

I could try an SSH tunnel, but I'm not sure how to do this on the iTouch or if it'll work.

Any thoughts? Does anyone actually do this?

Also, my iTouch is running 2.2.1 and is JBd, if that matters.
