    Hi,

I have bought a second hand Gen 1, itouch, with version 1.1.2.
I want to use my itouch without being tied to Itunes, and be able to use free 3rd party games, themes and applications. I have various GBA games but also want to use games with tilt control.(eg car racing, guitar play etc)

Having searched the forums, I have an idea which way to go, but some posts for this version are old, so I am not sure if they are still the best course of action.

It appears that I should downgrade to 1.1.1 then jailbreak, but do I get full functionality or should i upgrade to a higher version first. (ie are there any advantages/features that i would gain by going up to the latest version before jailbreaking or will I still be able to do everything from 1.1.1 ?)

If its downgrade to 1.1.1 then jailbreak, are these the latest instructions?

    1.1.2 to 1.1.1

    Jailbreak using AppSnapp

    Many thanks in anticipation,

OK thanks. So you are saying I will only get all the new features by buying 2.2.1 from Apple, then jailbreaking using QuickPwn ??

Before I make this purchase and action, can anyone else also confirm that this is what they would do?
When I downgraded a PSP, I took someones advice (that was not quite right) and only found out a few days later when others corrected him !!
(dont mean to question your knowledge Nikado - I just dont want to make a mistake that I can not undo, or pay for something that I did not need to do)
    Thanks.

    Thanks for confirming that.
Does Quick Pwn support 2.2.1, the read me only says up to 2.2.0
When it asks to select firmware version, will 2.2.1 be there?
    Thanks

Thanks for the link, but i see that it is unverified by this site.
I have manually found it on the Quickpwn site but it is an unofficial download.
    Is it safe and reliable??

Also I have seen what appear to be a free 2.2.1 firmware update.(although it appears under the Mac section, so not sure if its OK with Windows - or do I download it to the ipod touch?)
Is this safe, are there any other free versions or do I have to buy it from Apple?

    Thanks for your continued support.
