You could update to 3.0 and jailbreak that using redsn0w.

    It does not require Libusb

The 3.0 firmware does not mess up the iPod. If you're keen on jb'ing 2.2.1, use redsn0w 0.3 or quick freedom. However, like kewlgreen says it would be better if you upgrade to 3.0 and jb using redsnow 0.7X or 0.8.

Many apps are soon becoming 3.0 only, you should upgrage. It never 'f***s up' my iPod.
Upgrade, download Redsn0w, then follow the steps.

And, search before posting, there are hundreds of threads like this.

I didn't have to watch the entire video to say that it is possible to get the 3.0 firmware for free, but that would be piracy. 10$ is not a ton of money when you are talking about a $300+ piece of equipment that you would like to use to its full potential.

    I have a 16gig 2G iPod touch running OS3.0 and jailbroke with redsn0w 0.7.
I can say I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Immediately after 3.0 came out, many 3rd party apps were not compatible, but everyday more and more apps are being upgraded.

Personally I see no reason not to upgrade, but please pay for the software.

I think you should update to a 'stock' 3.0, before you jailbreak.
