Ok seeing as this is quite off topic and also posted in the music section of the OT board. i was thinking

i am a musician in the making and am wondering what software or which software is best in making my own sound. as in.. virtual piano, synthesizer, the works. at a cheap and affordable price. but totally on pc of course.

like to make my own .mp3 files and whatnot..

please post what software you guys use or what software you know that would be good for this task... and a link to their website... thanks

With music creation software it's hard to get good quality cheap.
It depends on your budget though...
Reason from Propellorhead Studios is excellent with a wide range
of features, although the interface takes some getting used to
but provides a neat realism through its interface.
FLS Studio is quite good as well, but slightly harder to use
I have ACID PRO 5 from Sony and it's not too bad, but the only
downfall is that it's loop-based, so you need to create loops
and then import them into ACID before using them...

Sorry I can't provide links atm, will do very soon though..

i checked up on Reason awhile back. seems decent but as you said needs a little getting used to... i WAS on ACID PRO 5. but then the loops started to get boring to create and import everytime i record something using the sound recorder program on windows xp. lol

FL Studio looks ok. actually from your recommendation it seems quite suitable to my liking. so im thinking of checking it out. pricings also reasonable and thank god they have a demo. so thanks for that and ill post results and whatnot after i try out the demo.

even so im not the kind of person who spends alot of time on just one program only to find it lacking some features that i need so the topics still open to other music making software available to fill my time. at a reasonable price of course =D

I agree with what you said about ACID...
A good program, but loops get boring and
tiresome when you cant create them
    in the program itself.

If I had the money to get any of the three
I would probably choose Reason for its sense
of realism and because I have a fair bit of
prior experience, but if I hadn't used Reason
before, FLS Studio all the way.

Hopefully you can find something to meet
    your compositional needs!

TuxGuitar is a great program for making music and it's multi-platform, but it does not make .mp3 files (it's free though).
