I will begin this thread with a simple question... Which is the best iPhone for Jailbreaking and Carrier Unlocking? I plan on getting an iPhone soon and am having a hard time deciding between an iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS(iPhone 4 is not an option for me). I would like to know which one is best and easiest for Jailbreaking and Unlocking all iOS's.

The iPhone 2G has a bootloader/hardware exploit so deep in the system that it can never be patched. It can be jailbroken and unlocked on any firmware. The only negative side is that the iPhone 2G isn't getting iOS4 and only runs on EDGE networks.

The 3G also has a bootroom exploit which means it can be jailbroken on any FW. This is why there is a JB for 4.0 on the 3G and not one on the 3GS

Right now, if you're looking to stay current, I'd go for the 3Gs, but otherwise, getting a 3G will allow you to get the jailbreaks before it is out for any other device. Dev's focus on the 3G first because of the bootrom exploit.

Don't even bother with a 2G...they're becoming obsolete, and unless you plan on getting one to put Android OS on, I don't think they're even worth it anymore...
