I need a drum machine for electronic music I play. I used a Nintendo DS (hacked with flash cart) for quite a while, but the drum machines I had pretty much sucked.

I've seen quite a few in the appstore. Most notably, iDrum Club. Is this the best option for an actually usable drum machine? I need it accurate - no wavering tempo nonsense or crappy tones.

Is iDrum my best option, or should I look at something else?

I know just what you mean - I play guitar, bass, drums, and keys. I don't have the setup to be able to loop my own drumming - I also don't have an electronic kit that I could use to get different sounds. I know I could never replace an actual drummer, but for a good backbeat under some electronica noise or a Rhodes, I think a drum machine type app *could* work.

Should iDrum Club fit what I want? I already have BtBx, which is pretty cool for an on-the-go sequencer (albeit very limited drum-wise). I also picked up Tapstereo (Oscillator which I know I'll use a lot for my ambient/noise project), and PaclSound1 - that Tenori-On type app.

What are the main differences between iDrum Club and iDrum hip-hop? I'm not really looking for hip-hop sounds - is that all the Hip-Hop version really has?

have you ever thought about getting an actual drum machine? you can get one for less than $200 on ebay. they are a lot more fun to beat on and have more robust effects settings than you would want on a ipod/iphone... small interfaces suck. having physical hardware is pretty much 99.9% reliable unless you do something stupid with it, and everyone will know that you're not "cheating" like all those kids who use software to mix music automatically on their laptop.

the korg Es-1 is might be the best for the money. it does so much, you just have to work with the "smart card" a bit from time to time.

Sorry to reply to an old thread, but you should really check out DigiDrummer. There's a lite version that you can try for free and the full version is only $1.99. We reviewed it on our site, simply click the OrangeCritic link in my signature and go to the Reviews page.
