Hello, not sure where to start or what to search. I did in the beginning jailbroke 1.something. I recently connected again and i'm still with 1.1.5. My itunes wants me to buy 3.1.2. Should I? If not where do I get the 3.1.1? Then i'll follow the tutorial for jailbreaking.

You should update using iTunes. It's extremely simple to jailbreak, just a click of a button. www.blackra1n.com for the jailbreak.

I read that getting the 3.1.1 is pretty much teh same as getting the 3.1.2, but I don't have to pay for something that should be free. Is there a place to get the 3.1.1?

That's illegal and is against forum rules.

Jailbreaking has never been illegal, nor will it ever be.

Jailbreaking isn't illegal. You're just modding something you own. Like modding a car or modding your computer.

Yeah I went and read the link to the rules and feel like i'm back in elementary school when I got sent outside the classroom and had to sit in that desk with the three sides(horse blinders) so I couldn't "disturb" anything.

Back to the part of the topic, All I have is the 1.1.5 and I tried to update, but itunes wants me to pay for it. Why are they doing that? I thought all the software upgrades were part of buying the initial product.

No. Any major software update such as 1.x.x to 2.x.x or 2.x.x to 3.x.x will cost money. Except on an iPhone because you bought a subsidized item and you continuously pay big bucks for the product and services.
