i am wondering why my iPod touch 2G (1 1/2 years old) battery level going down so fast when it reached 55%, i used about 2 hours than it reached 60%, after than it dropped 30% in a hour. i did restore it to OS 3.1.3 already, and the problems havent solved, is this related to hardware problem ? or my battery is getting old ?

The iPod touch "quick charges" to 80% battery life, and then it takes a lot longer to reach the full 100% charged level. So when it drains, it goes slowly to 80% and then drains a lot quicker once it is below that level.

Maybe you should try calibrating your battery. It won't fix your problem (what kiks said was correct), it will just maybe help keep a better charge. Do it at least every month:

Drain your battery down to 0 or close and charge it all the back up to 100. Once it is at 100, let it sit for about 10mins and then you're done. I use an app do do this; there are a lot of them on the app store.

Do I need to drain the battery until it shut down itself automatically? or just 0 ?

Close. Never let your battery go all the way down that it shuts down by itself.
