My ipot/itouch/ipod touch has a huge issue with keeping cool with charging. I plug it in maybe visit cydia store and bam it goes a whopping 20-30 degrees Celsius. Sorry Fahrenheit. I am going to get an AC adapter cause I heard it helps. After syncing I press eject so that it charges but it is not connected to iTunes and it still is warm, i'm testing at the moment and it is the same temperature. Any ideas? Long term charging lie this shouldn't be too good for the battery. No I took the case off.

An iPod touch's back is supposed to get hot when charging because the back is slightly opened, while the iPhone is closed, because the iPod touch is much thinner and the adapter doesn't go in all the way.

Turn it off. But when it charges it automatically turns on. So no.

My iPod Touch gets a little hot when i charge mine up. Just make sure it's not broken your iPod Touch first before reporting it to Apple.
